Autumn is the season for colds
The season of the metal
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, autumn is
the season of the element metal. The lung
and colon are the two organs contained
within the metal. The dry, cold air in
autumn often leads to diseases of the
pulmonary function system and also results
in digestive disorders and skin diseases.
Cough, runny nose, sore throat, flu-like
infections, sinusitis etc. are very common in
this time of year. The immune system
decreases and in many cases a malnutrition
including too much raw food and not
enough hot food causes a susceptibility to
infection.
How does the acupunture treatment
work?
Above all, the dry climate leads to
symptoms such as dry cough, constipation
and dry skin. In this case, TCM can be very
effective at modulating the immune system
and may help keep recurrent infections in
check.
As an integrated part of an initial
consultation (TCM anamnesis, pulse and
tongue diagnosis) an individual treatment
plan is created. With the help of
acupuncture, Chinese herbs and a possible
change in diet, colds can effectively be
treated and infections be reduced.
